Chef Samantha Vallejo-Nágera and her support for refugee women

Last World Refugee Day, the Gunni & Trentino Flagship Store in Madrid became the setting for an event filled with solidarity and gastronomy. Renowned Spanish chef Samantha Vallejo-Nágera joined the #RESCooking challenge, organized by the NGO Rescate, to cook alongside refugee women from Ukraine, Venezuela, and Colombia.

An event to remember

On a day marked by empathy and collaboration, fourteen people gathered in our space to enjoy a unique culinary experience. The refugee women prepared traditional dishes from their countries, while Samantha Vallejo-Nágera added her special touch to each recipe, creating a feast that delighted everyone present.

This event was not only a celebration of international cuisine, but also a platform to highlight the reality and challenges refugees face in their daily lives. Vallejo-Nágera emphasized the importance of events like this, stating that "bringing visibility to different situations of vulnerability is essential" and expressing her satisfaction at being part of an initiative that fuses cuisine with solidarity.

The message from NGO Rescue

Carlos Echánove, director of the NGO Rescate, emphasized in his speech that "all migration stories carry with them pain, fear, respect for a different culture, and often, also despair." He affirmed that cooking is "a beautiful way to remember and return, in a way, to one's roots." The #RESCooking initiative seeks precisely that: to open the doors to the culture and lives of the NGO's clients through gastronomy, connecting them with their homes of origin.

A bridge between cultures

The #RESCooking event at the Gunni & Trentino Flagship Store in Madrid was a wonderful opportunity for cuisine to serve as a bridge between cultures, offering a tool for visibility and support for refugees. Samantha Vallejo-Nágera's collaboration with the NGO Rescate highlights the importance of solidarity and supporting the most vulnerable through gastronomy. At Gunni & Trentino , we are honored to have been part of this initiative, reaffirming our commitment to causes that promote inclusion and respect between cultures.
