Piergiorgio Cazzaniga
Piergiorgio Cazzaniga is one of the most prominent names in contemporary Italian design. Born in 1946 in Lissone, in the heart of the Brianza furniture district, his training began in his father's carpentry shop, where he learned the artisan trade from a young age. His professional career took him from working in local companies to industrial design studios in Milan, before becoming Head of R&D at Boffi Cucine. Since 1971, he has worked as an independent designer, collaborating with iconic brands such as Poltrona Frau, MDF Italia, Living Divani, and Andreu World, developing pieces characterized by a refined aesthetic and great technical sophistication.
Cazzaniga's work is based on structural innovation and the mastery of materials such as metal, plywood, and steel, achieving lightweight, slender forms of great elegance. Throughout his career, he has received numerous awards, including the ADI Compasso d'Oro, the Red Dot Design Award, and the Good Design Award. His most recognized pieces include the Mariposa chair, the Sign collection for MDF Italia, the Tense system, the Reader armchairs, the Sail chair collection for Andreu World, and the Touch and Linea kitchens for Composit. His approach is based on formal subtraction and the balance between technique, form, and emotion.
