Roberto Barbieri

Roberto Barbieri was an Italian architect and designer whose work stands out for its balance of formal elegance and technical precision. Born in Milan in 1942, he began his career in social architecture, but it was his foray into furniture design that marked a turning point in his career. His first major appearance was in 1979 with the Cartiglia bed, selected for an exhibition at the Stadt Museum in Cologne. This piece showcased his sober and rigorous approach, which would later become his hallmark.

He collaborated closely with Zanotta, creating iconic pieces such as the Orione table and the Lia and Kate chairs, combining innovative materials with clean geometric structures. His partnership with Poliform also left its mark, with collections such as Trevi , Flute , and Baba , examples of essential, lightweight, and functional design. Barbieri's work remains relevant today thanks to his ability to transcend trends with timeless elegance and exceptional design consistency.
