Umberto Asnago

Umberto Asnago is one of the most recognizable figures in contemporary Italian design, forged in the cradle of designer furniture: the Brianza region. Born in Barlassina in 1949, his artisan training began at a young age in local workshops and was consolidated at the Cantù Art Institute. His career is intertwined with the history of Giorgetti, where he was the creative soul of the Research Center and a key figure in an evolution that fused artisanal excellence with innovative industrial processes. The Progetti collection—a benchmark of Made in Italy design—marked a turning point in his career and in the brand's identity.

Since 2006, Asnago has embarked on an independent path that allows him to freely explore a sober, elegant, and profoundly material aesthetic. His style has matured into a distinct language characterized by formal rigor, technical mastery, and the prominence of noble materials such as solid wood, leather, and marble. He has worked for firms such as Fratelli Orsenigo, I 4 Mariani, Porada, Arflex, and Penta Light—of which he is artistic director—and has created iconic pieces such as the Naviglio sofa and the MoM lamps. His design reflects a precise, balanced vision deeply rooted in Italian heritage.
