CASA DECOR 2019

A space for living and cooking. Deulonder integrates the living area with the kitchen.

“If you don’t like the heat, don’t go into the kitchen,” as the saying goes. Indeed, these two interior designers see the kitchen as the cocoon of the home, the privileged space where the family gathers while preparing and eating food—in short, the place where they exchange impressions of daily life and share good times. It’s a unique space because it’s both intimate and communal. One of Chone and Lluïsa’s priorities in their projects is to create a warm atmosphere to facilitate this daily dialogue. To achieve this, they subtly combine a homey and traditional style, reminiscent of the aromas of yesteryear, when cooking was done slowly and with love, with modernity, with a clear intention to create practical and technologically advanced kitchens that satisfactorily meet the needs of 21st-century families.

One of Deulonder's innovations is that it has gone beyond traditional kitchen design, creating a new line of comprehensive interior design to extend this distinctive kitchen aesthetic to the rest of the home. Living rooms, bedrooms, children's rooms, bathrooms—all spaces can benefit from this vision of a protective and inviting home.

The proposal for this year's Casa Decor reflects this innovative, more holistic approach, featuring a large family room that includes several interconnected spaces: the kitchen and dining areas, a linen and tableware storage room, a cozy sitting area with a fireplace, and a small multipurpose space for breakfast and relaxing. Overall, our kitchen invites you to spend quality time in a supremely comfortable and inviting environment, a haven of peace and tranquility rendered in warm tones: a stone gray for the walls contrasting with the white of the furniture and woodwork.

The kitchen area features a striking decorative range hood that spans the entire width of the cooking zone, with a cornice in the same tone as the rest of the cabinetry. A thoughtful detail in this area is the Pot Filler installed next to the cooktop, providing filtered water for food preparation without having to move pots to the sink. An open shelf to the right is perfect for storing spices and frequently used cooking ingredients. The island includes a sink and a bar area for casual dining or for sitting and chatting while preparing meals.

It is illuminated by two black lamps, matching the wall sconces. The floating bar is supported by decorative turned legs. The refrigerator is an imposing 120cm Sub-Zero model in stainless steel, which is echoed in the sink, also in stainless steel, while the hob and oven are by Wolf, as is a practical 76cm plate warmer.

The kitchen area includes an adjoining storage room for dishes and hanging tablecloths, keeping them wrinkle-free and easily accessible. Another new feature this year is a bar next to the breakfast buffet, a well-lit, versatile, and informal space where guests can enjoy breakfast or sit with their laptops to write emails.

It's worth noting that the breakfast buffet includes a drawer for recycling coffee capsules, as at Deulonder we take the environment and the need to recycle very seriously. This unit serves as a support surface, located between the cooking area and the dining area, and can also be used for other occasional purposes, such as preparing cocktails, snacks, etc.

The living area revolves around a fireplace, which here is electric and serves a purely decorative purpose, but could be gas-fired, providing warmth without the hassle of hauling logs up and down or cleaning up ashes. A comfortable sofa and armchairs have been placed in front of it to create a cozy corner. On one side, an upholstered bench conceals a surprise: the base houses a drawer for the family pet's food, which can be stored away when not in use, keeping the space clear and tidy.

The dining area features a reclaimed wood table and a custom-made bench upholstered in the same pearly color palette as the rest of the kitchen. It's a cozy space for enjoying quiet meals with family and friends, with wicker chairs that always add a cheerful touch to the atmosphere, while the lamp has a black metal shade reminiscent of industrial style, offering a charming modern counterpoint.
