HOUSE DECOR 2020

The utility room. A space to forget about the passage of time.

Interior designers Chone de la Sotilla and Lluïsa Deulonder designed the 'Utility Room,' the kind of space everyone dreams of having: an ideal room for washing, ironing, and all sorts of secondary household chores that require a dedicated space. Deulonder's magic touch transformed this unremarkable room, usually tucked away in some corner of the house, into a veritable palace of order, harmony, and beauty, so comfortable and welcoming that it's easy to lose track of time. The bright and airy space is located on the fourth floor of the majestic building at 21 Velázquez Street, part of Espacio 63.

On one side, there's a laundry area, which includes the washing and ironing circuit, as well as space for storing linens. As is typical in Deulonder layouts, the washing machine and dryer have been placed at a height, making them more convenient to use and freeing up space for baskets that help organize the laundry.

All the wet cabinets feature a sophisticated lacquered metal mesh to promote ventilation. Inside, you'll find a foldable drying rack with a heated plate for drying clothes or a practical Corian waste bin.

The ironing area deserves ample space, with a good-sized table covered in a cotton fabric that displays a diagram indicating the measurements for folding different types of linens: sheets, towels, shirts, etc. Lighting is essential, and this area has received specific attention from Deulonder, who have installed a powerful linear lamp that illuminates the entire ironing surface.

In addition, a dedicated space has been designed for storing tablecloths and sheets, featuring elegant glass-fronted cabinets. This practical system of pull-out hangers or bars allows for hanging tablecloths and sheets. Each type of linen is neatly arranged in its designated place, preventing wrinkles and ensuring easy access when needed.

On the other hand, there's the auxiliary table, ideal for all those tasks that require a clean, clear surface, such as arranging a beautiful bouquet, wrapping a gift, or enjoying a DIY project or craft. Likewise, a space has been reserved for cleaning various types of footwear—street shoes, sneakers, hiking boots, etc.—and open shelves made of slatted wood for storing them once cleaned.
