ABOUT THE DESIGNER

Martin Eisler

Martin Eisler was an influential Austrian-Brazilian architect and designer, born in Vienna in 1913 and trained under Oskar Strnad and Clemens Holzmeister. The son of renowned art historian Max Eisler, his legacy combines a solid intellectual foundation with an innovative approach to modern design. In 1938, he moved to Buenos Aires, where he began exhibiting his work and later founded the company Interieur with Arnold Hackel. His work is characterized by a cosmopolitan sensibility and a holistic conception of design, encompassing everything from architecture to the finest details of furniture.

In the mid-1950s, his career took a decisive turn with his collaboration with Carlo Hauner in Brazil, becoming Artistic Director of Forma. There he developed a unique formal language, working with tropical woods, lacquers, and metals, and creating iconic pieces such as the Reversível and Costela chairs. His vision led him to collaborate with Knoll International and participate in the great architectural transformation of Brasília alongside Oscar Niemeyer. Martin Eisler was a true pioneer of modern design in Latin America, with an internationally celebrated body of work that is now featured in renowned auctions and in historic design collections.
