Description

The Bob table by Poltrona Frau is an elegant, practical, and timeless side table, designed by Jean-Marie Massaud in 2006. Its design is characterized by a careful combination of steel, wood, Pelle Frau® leather, and marble, resulting in a table that is light in appearance yet has a very refined presence. Inspired by an international, Kennedy-esque lifestyle, Bob expresses a discreet, sophisticated beauty that is easy to integrate into different environments.

Design

Bob embodies an idea of elegant simplicity, where each element fulfills an aesthetic and constructive function. The metallic structure, with its fine and precise lines, supports a circular top available in different materials, allowing the piece to adapt to warmer, more decorative, or more sober compositions depending on the chosen finish. Its balanced proportion and essential language make it an exceptionally versatile side table.

Concept

The concept of Bob stems from the meeting of functionality and sophistication. The piece combines a visually lightweight steel base with strong character tops, whether in Pelle Frau® ColorSphere® leather, Noce Canaletto, or marble. This mix of materials allows the table to function both as a practical support next to sofas and armchairs and as a decorative element within an interior design composition.

Materials and finishes
The base and the lower part of the leg are made of steel, available in gunmetal, ruthenium, and brushed burnished finishes. The piece includes protective plastic glides.

The upper part of the leg is also made of steel and varies according to the chosen top. When the top is Noce Canaletto, it includes a collar finished in the same wood. In versions with leather or marble tops, this part is upholstered in Pelle Frau®.

The top is available in three main finish families: Pelle Frau® ColorSphere®, Noce Canaletto, and marble. The leather versions are made on a birch plywood base covered in Pelle Frau® ColorSphere®, with the upper part of the leg coordinated in the same color. The Noce Canaletto versions also use birch plywood, veneered in this wood, with a matching upper leg part.

In the marble versions, available except for the Ø110 cm model, the top has a technical mesh on its underside that improves resistance to bending, breakage, and impacts. The available marbles are glossy or semi-glossy Calacatta, glossy or semi-glossy Arabescato Venato, and glossy or semi-glossy Nero Marquinia. In the Calacatta and Arabescato Venato finishes, the upper part of the leg is upholstered in Pelle Frau® SC 06 Calicot; in the Nero Marquinia finish, it is upholstered in Pelle Frau® SC 20 Inchiostro.

Distinctive detail

One of Bob's most interesting features is the relationship between the lightness of its structure and the richness of the top materials. The glossy marble versions receive a transparent polyester treatment that increases surface resistance and helps prevent liquid absorption. The semi-glossy versions, on the other hand, incorporate a protective water-repellent solution that offers a more natural look.
