ABOUT THE DESIGNER

Karen Chekerdjian

Karen Chekerdjian's path to design was unconventional, shaped by a combination of practical experiences in various creative fields. She began her career in advertising, working in film and graphic design at Leo Burnett Beirut (1991), and co-founded one of the first branding companies in the Middle East. In 1997, she moved to Milan to pursue a master's degree in industrial design at the DOMUS Academy, under the tutelage of Massimo Morozzi, one of the founders of Archizoom.

During this time, Chekerdjian also worked with Morozzi at EDRA, where he was Artistic Director, in what became a key formative experience and a mentorship that lasted four years (1997–2000). In 2001, she returned to Beirut, the contradictory and transient city where she was born and to which she always returns. That same year, she founded Karen Chekerdjian Studio, a space where she continues to reflect on and redefine her craft and working methods.
