Charlotte Perriand
Charlotte Perriand (1903–1999) was a pioneer of modern design, whose work broke gender barriers and transformed the way 20th-century interior design was conceived. Her approach united modernity, functionality, and a profound respect for nature, reflected in her organic forms and honest materials. A key collaborator of Le Corbusier for a decade, she brought warmth and humanity to his rationalist spaces, imbuing them with aesthetic coherence and innovation. Her nonconformist nature led her to seek inspiration outside of academia, finding it in industrial design and everyday life.
Socially and politically committed, Perriand championed accessible design that responded to the real needs of society. Beginning in 1964, she began a pivotal collaboration with Cassina, which remains the only firm authorized to reissue her pieces. This alliance has kept her legacy alive through the Charlotte Perriand Collection, currently enriched by the creative direction of Patricia Urquiola. Her work remains a universal benchmark for committed, avant-garde, and deeply humane design.
