Martin Eisler

Martin Eisler was an influential Austrian-Brazilian architect and designer, born in Vienna in 1913 and trained under the tutelage of Oskar Strnad and Clemens Holzmeister. The son of the renowned art historian Max Eisler, his legacy combines a solid intellectual foundation with an innovative approach to modern design. In 1938, he moved to Buenos Aires, where he began his exhibition career and later founded the company Interieur with Arnold Hackel. His work is characterized by a cosmopolitan sensibility and a holistic conception of design, encompassing everything from architecture to the most refined details of furniture.

In the mid-1950s, his career took a definitive turn with his collaboration with Carlo Hauner in Brazil, where he became Artistic Director of Forma. There, he developed a unique formal language, working with tropical woods, lacquers, and metals, creating iconic pieces such as the Reversível and Costela seats. His vision led him to collaborate with Knoll International and participate in the major architectural transformation of Brasilia alongside Oscar Niemeyer. Martin Eisler was a true pioneer of modern design in Latin America, with an internationally celebrated body of work that is now featured in renowned auctions and historic design collections.
