BD Barcelona: Modern designer furniture
The Bocaccio Design of early seventies Barcelona emerged from the hands of Pep Bonet, Cristian Cirici, Lluís Clotet, Mireia Riera and Óscar Tusquets as a production vehicle for all those pieces of furniture, objects and accessories that did not exist in stores. It could have just been a statement of arrogance, but it was going to become a unique experience that offered a reading of unusual design in our country: a new sensibility and different perception of everyday objects.
What in 1972 was the expression of the almost insolent rebellion of some dissatisfied young architects, soon became a productive philosophy with a vocation to transgress limits, including the commercials.
Contemporary creations have coexisted in the BD Barcelona catalog with those of the great and admired classical masters, and have exposed their weaknesses and preferences. Álvaro Siza Viera, Ettore Sottsass, Javier Mariscal, Alessandro Mendini, Miguel Milá and Pete Sans have shared space with Antonio Gaudí, Salvador Dalí, Charles Rennie Mackintosh, Giuseppe Terragni, Josef Hoffmann and Adolf Loos, The magnificent head office of BD is a modernist building by Domènech i Montaner – the Thomas House (1895) – deserving recipient of the National Restoration Prize in 1979.
BD does not manufacture; BD edits. For each piece, the brand seeks the best process – the one most appropriate to its essences – so that each and every one of them are the result of the care and precision of artisan techniques or the most intelligent technological performance.
BD renews its commitment to coexistence with furniture and objects to use them as everyday tools, but also as an expression of a pleasant relationship with its shapes, textures and evocations.
Gunni & Trentino is an official distributor of BD Barcelona.
